Sunishma Singh was crowned Miss Continental Oceania 2024 at the Miss Face of Beauty International Pageant in Taiwan on Thursday. The 28-year-old sustainability advocate and entrepreneur expressed gratitude for the chance to represent Fiji and the entire Oceania region.
“This title serves as a platform for me to advocate for climate resilience, sustainable tourism, and gender empowerment on a global scale,” Ms. Singh stated. She acknowledged the significant responsibility that comes with the title and looked forward to using this recognition to highlight critical issues within Fiji and the wider Pacific community.
Ms. Singh believes that her educational background, entrepreneurial endeavors, and experience in sustainable tourism contributed to her success in the competition. “I have always felt that I should utilize every opportunity I have to elevate the causes I am passionate about, and this pageant allowed me to showcase both Fiji’s beauty and my commitment to sustainability,” she noted.
Reflecting on her experience in Taiwan, she mentioned, “Not a moment went by without missing home and the comforts of home-cooked meals.” Competing alongside remarkable women from around the globe, each brought unique perspectives and strengths to the event.
Ms. Singh holds a bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Information Systems and Geography and a postgraduate degree in Climate Change from the University of the South Pacific. Alongside her role as the Sustainability Officer at Tourism Fiji, she runs a successful business, Singh’s Herbal Hair Oil, which is distributed in over 65 supermarkets across Fiji.
“I am also dedicated to promoting sustainable practices; my advocacy extends to environmental resilience and gender empowerment,” she added. Her journey has been marked by both challenges and achievements, including balancing her studies with work.
“I was determined to excel academically while building a career that emphasizes sustainability and entrepreneurship,” she said.
During the pageant’s coronation, Jeanne Isabelle Bilasano from the Philippines was named Miss Face of Beauty International 2024.
