Sunishma Singh has been crowned Miss Continental Oceania 2024 at the Miss Face of Beauty International Pageant held in Taiwan. The 28-year-old entrepreneur and advocate for sustainability expressed her gratitude for the chance to represent Fiji and the entire Oceania region.
“This title serves as a platform for me to promote climate resilience, sustainable tourism, and gender empowerment globally,” Ms. Singh stated. She acknowledged the significant responsibility that comes with this title and is eager to use it to highlight vital issues within Fiji and the larger Pacific community.
Ms. Singh believes her academic achievements, entrepreneurial endeavors, and her experience in sustainable tourism contributed to her success in the pageant. “I have always aimed to utilize every opportunity to support the causes I am passionate about, and this pageant was a perfect opportunity to showcase both the beauty of Fiji and my commitment to sustainability,” she remarked.
During her time in Taiwan, she reflected on her longing for home comforts, particularly ‘home-cooked meals’, while being surrounded by impressive women from around the globe, each contributing unique strengths and viewpoints.
Ms. Singh holds a bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Information Systems and Geography, along with a postgraduate degree in Climate Change from the University of the South Pacific. In her role as Sustainability Officer at Tourism Fiji, she also leads her own successful business, Singh’s Herbal Hair Oil, which is available in over 65 supermarkets across Fiji.
She emphasized her dedication to promoting sustainable practices and has engaged in advocacy for environmental resilience and gender empowerment. Her journey has not been without challenges, as she worked hard to balance her education and career.
“I was committed to excelling academically while also pursuing a career focused on sustainability and entrepreneurship,” she noted.
