Sunishma Singh has been named Miss Continental Oceania 2024 at the Miss Face of Beauty International Pageant held in Taiwan on Thursday. The 28-year-old, who is an advocate for sustainability and an entrepreneur, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to represent both Fiji and the broader Oceania region.

“This title is a platform for me to continue advocating for climate resilience, sustainable tourism, and gender empowerment on a global scale,” Ms. Singh stated. She emphasized the significance of the role and her desire to leverage this recognition to highlight critical issues in Fiji and the wider Pacific community.

Ms. Singh attributes her success to her academic background and her entrepreneurial endeavors in sustainable tourism. “I have always believed in utilizing every platform to elevate important causes, and this pageant allowed me to showcase Fiji’s beauty as well as my commitment to sustainability,” she remarked.

Although proud of her achievement, she noted that she missed home throughout the competition. “There was not a moment that I did not miss home and the comforts of a ‘home-cooked meal.’ Competing in Taiwan, I was surrounded by incredible women from around the world, each bringing unique perspectives and strengths.”

With a bachelor’s degree in Geospatial Information Systems and Geography, along with a postgraduate degree in Climate Change from the University of the South Pacific, Ms. Singh also serves as the Sustainability Officer at Tourism Fiji. She successfully runs her own business, Singh’s Herbal Hair Oil, which is available in over 65 supermarkets throughout Fiji.

“I am passionate about promoting sustainable practices, and my work has expanded into advocacy for environmental resilience and gender empowerment,” she added. Her journey has not been without challenges, as she faced difficulties balancing her studies with work. “I was determined to excel academically while building a career that is steeped in sustainability and entrepreneurship.”

During the same pageant, Jeanne Isabelle Bilasano from the Philippines was crowned the overall winner, taking home the title of Miss Face of Beauty International 2024.
