Fiji’s Sunishma Singh: Crowned and Committed to a Sustainable Future

Sunishma Singh, a resident of Sigatoka and passionate advocate for sustainable tourism and environmental resilience, represented Fiji at the Face of Beauty International 2024 competition in Taiwan from September 9 to 23. During the event, she earned the title of Miss Continental Oceania, recognized for her beauty, intelligence, and leadership qualities.

In her own words, Singh expressed her pride in this achievement, stating, “It was an absolute honour and one of the proudest moments of my life.” She explained her motivation stems from a commitment to promoting sustainable practices and addressing critical issues like climate change.

The 28-year-old currently serves as a sustainability officer for Tourism Fiji and is an accredited member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). She holds a bachelor’s degree in geospatial information systems and geography, along with a postgraduate diploma in climate change from the University of the South Pacific (USP). Additionally, she runs her own business, Singhs Herbal Hair Oil, which distributes products across 65 supermarkets in Fiji.

To prepare mentally for the competition, Singh engaged in Bible reading and prayer, reinforcing her commitment to represent Fiji authentically. She emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and a balanced diet, attributing her stability to the support of her family, friends, and online community.

In the pageant, Singh aimed to showcase Fiji’s warm hospitality and diverse culture while promoting eco-friendly tourism practices and sustainable development. Representing Fiji, she took on the dual role of honor and responsibility, eager to share the nation’s leadership in climate resilience and sustainable tourism, aligning with her professional expertise.

Her dedication to environmental sustainability and women’s empowerment influences her commitment to educational initiatives that uplift young women in rural areas. Singh views the pageant as a platform to raise global awareness about the significance of environmental stewardship and encourages others to harness their unique strengths to effect change within their communities.

Singh’s transformative experience at the competition has fueled her ambition to continue advocating for climate action and support local communities through her entrepreneurial endeavors.
