The brother of a former CEO of the Fiji Sugar Corporation reportedly received an annual salary of $80,000, according to Sugar Minister Charan Jeath Singh. During a discussion with farmers in Bucaisau, Labasa, Singh revealed that this information came from the FSC board.
Singh noted that the individual had traveled from South Africa to Fiji for a vacation, and it remained unclear what official position he held at the FSC. He criticized the hiring process, stating that proper protocols were not followed, particularly the lack of a public advertisement for the position.
“There was no advertisement put out in the media for the post,” Singh stated. “I’m not sure what job or posts he had, as he had no job description. His job was to muck around.”
In addition to the salary, Singh mentioned that the FSC had reimbursed the individual’s airfare from South Africa to Fiji. When questioned about reporting the situation to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, he indicated that he would await guidance from the FSC board before taking further action.
