A historic payment of $105.08 per tonne, marking the highest payout in Fiji’s sugar industry, will be distributed to cane farmers during this Diwali.

Charan Jeath Singh, the Minister for the Sugar Industry, emphasized that this unprecedented support is not merely financial; it reflects a strong commitment to the hard work and resilience of every farmer.

He acknowledged the difficulties farmers face, noting that the government, under Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s leadership, increased the payment from the initial $2.57 to a total of $4 per tonne.

“This Diwali, we fulfill our promise to empower farmers, ease their hardships, and honor the vital contributions they make daily to Fiji’s economy,” Singh stated.

He added that this remarkable payment exemplifies the Coalition Government’s dedication to fostering a prosperous future for the sugar industry and enhancing the lives and recognition of farmers’ efforts.
