An Australian couple, Owen Twist and his wife Christine, are thrilled to be back in Fiji. They were among more than 2,000 passengers aboard a P&O Cruises Australia ship that docked in Lautoka on Monday.
The Twists previously lived in Fiji in the early 1970s while serving the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Suva. “It feels so good to be back in Fiji. We were hoping to meet some of our local friends that we have contacted through social media,” said Mr. Twist.
They originally intended to stay for two years, but their affection for the local community led them to remain for nine years. “Fiji has always held a special place in our hearts,” he added. Their daughters, who work as nurses, also spent part of their childhood in Fiji, strengthening the family’s lasting connections to the country.
During their visit, the couple expressed their appreciation for the bonds they formed while living in Fiji. They also brought back Fijian handicrafts as souvenirs, purchasing items from woodcarver Jone Sito.
The cruise ship is set to continue its journey to Taveuni before heading back to Sydney.
