The 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship and Trifecta wrapped up with thrilling 10km super and 5km sprint obstacle races at Aviva Farms in Sabeto. The event attracted a large crowd, featuring participants from various backgrounds, including seasoned Spartan competitors, first-timers, and local teams.
The picturesque setting of the Garden of Sleeping Giant, with its towering peaks and verdant forests, added to the excitement and challenge of the races. David Dewar, who completed the 10km Spartan Super, praised the event, stating, “It was an excellent event… the support of so many people along the course was fantastic.”
Susannah Hodson, who participated in the 5km Sprint with her friends, described her experience as fulfilling yet challenging. She noted, “The kids loved the kid’s race, and I found the 5km tough, but it’s a great sense of achievement at the end.”
However, the event did see some setbacks. Notably, Fiji’s champion boxer Winston Hill faced challenges due to a hand injury from a recent bout, which prevented him from participating fully in the races. Despite this, he managed to take part in the open division, adapting his participation to accommodate his injury.
Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill expressed enthusiasm for the event, highlighting its attractiveness to athletes and families globally. He pointed out the economic impact of the race, noting that last year it contributed over FJD$7.8 million to Fiji’s economy, with expectations for a similar or greater impact this year.
As the event combines physical fitness with community spirit and showcases Fiji’s breathtaking landscape, it serves as a testament to the resilience and determination of participants and organizers alike. This year’s championship promises not only to inspire athletes but also to contribute positively to the local economy while promoting a healthy lifestyle for all ages.
Overall, the Fiji Spartan events have successfully brought people together to celebrate health, fitness, and the stunning natural beauty of Fiji.
