The 2024 Fiji Spartan APAC Championship and Trifecta wrapped up yesterday with vibrant 10km super and 5km sprint obstacle races at Aviva Farms, Sabeto. The event attracted hundreds of participants, featuring both seasoned Spartan racers from around the globe and enthusiastic local teams and first-time competitors, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Garden of Sleeping Giant.

David Dewar, who took part in the 10km race, praised the event, sharing, “It was an excellent event. The 10km was pretty gruelling but it was great to have the support of so many people along the course. Well done to the organizers and Tourism Fiji and sponsors for putting on an epic event in such a stunning location.”

First-time racer Susannah Hodson participated in the 5km sprint with friends and family. She expressed her enjoyment of the experience, stating, “This was my first Spartan race and it was a great chance to get the whole family involved. The kids loved the kid’s race and I did the 5km. I found it tough going, but it’s a great sense of achievement at the end.”

However, the event came with challenges for Fiji’s champion boxer Winston Hill, who continues to recover from a hand injury sustained during a recent bout in Nadi. Despite this setback, he participated in both the 10km and 5km races, adapting to his condition by bypassing certain obstacles but enjoying the camaraderie of the event.

Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill noted the significance of the Spartan event, highlighting that it began with a 10km night race and attracted athletes and families from around the world. He shared optimism about the economic impact of the event, which last year contributed over FJD$7.8 million to Fiji’s economy. This year, he expects similar or greater benefits while promoting physical fitness, fun, and showcasing the beauty of Fiji on an international scale.

This weekend’s races not only brought a sense of achievement and community spirit but also emphasized the importance of health and fitness. As the event continues to grow, it fosters global connections and promotes tourism in Fiji, providing hope for a thriving local economy and an inspiring sports culture.
