The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) has raised concerns about the rising hostilities among women on social media. Lavenia Tuitabu, a counselor and advocate at FWCC, addressed this issue during a live video on the organization’s social media page, questioning the root causes of conflict among women.
Tuitabu explained that the animosities often arise when a woman discovers her partner is involved with another woman, leading to confrontations between the two parties. She noted that during these altercations, women tend to direct their anger at each other while still feeling a sense of loyalty to their partners.
“In these situations, women often put aside their own feelings and engage in hostile exchanges with one another,” Tuitabu observed. She highlighted how, amidst the turmoil, the men involved remain detached and manipulate the conflict between the two women, noting, “It is the man who creates this situation.”
Tuitabu lamented the painful outcome of such disputes, particularly the prevalence of negative comments directed at women in these online conflicts. She emphasized the emotional toll this behavior can take on all parties involved.
