The Fiji Airways men’s sevens team is gearing up for the upcoming HSBC SVNS World Series, set to start later this month, by participating in the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament. This event will feature two teams from Fiji’s national sevens squad, along with a team from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua.
Suliano Volivoli emphasized that their goal in competing at the Mataso tournament is to enhance their performance and game readiness for the Dubai 7s. He mentioned, “We are looking towards preparing ourselves well for our game time there so that we are ready when we depart for the Dubai 7s.” The Mataso tournament, taking place on November 15-16 at Churchill Park in Lautoka, is expected to attract fans eager to get a preview of the team.
Head coach Osea Kolinisau acknowledged the challenges in selecting the final team, with training efforts taking place alongside their female counterparts, the Fijiana, at Bidesi Park. Despite the pressure of selection, Kolinisau remains optimistic about their prospects in the upcoming segment of the 2024/2025 World Series.
This exciting preparation phase not only allows the Fijian teams to fine-tune their skills but also unites the rugby community in anticipation of their international performance, promising an engaging lead-up to the series.
In summary, the Fiji men’s sevens team is intensifying their training through the Mataso 7s to prepare for the Dubai 7s, showcasing their commitment to excellence and building community support as they head into the competitive season.
