Eight players from the national men’s sevens extended squad have been chosen to represent the Mike Friday Select Sevens team at the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament. This selection comes under the nomination of head coach Osea Kolinisau.
The selected Fiji players include Viliame Naikausa, Rubeni Kabu, Suliano Volivoli, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Sakiusa Siqila, Rauto Vakadranu, and Alipate Biu. They will team up with renowned international players such as Jerry Tuwai, former Ireland captain Harry McNulty, USA’s Matai Leuta, and Rosko Specman.
Jay Whyte, the chairman of the tournament’s organizing committee, commented that the Mike Friday Select 7s team is a new and exciting addition to the event this year. Additionally, Luke Treharne from Wales and Alexandre Odinga from France will also join the team, highlighting the tournament’s international flair.
This opportunity enables the eight Fiji players to showcase their talents, with hopes of earning spots in the team for the HSBC SVSN Perth Sevens tournament scheduled for January 24 to 26. The Coral Coast 7s will take place over three days from January 16 to 18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
This event not only promotes the sport of rugby sevens in Fiji but also provides players a prestigious platform to demonstrate their skills.
