Fiji’s long-distance running star, Yeshnil Karan, and his team secured second place in the Namosi Challenge, dubbed “Fiji’s Toughest Race,” which took place in the Namosi highlands on Saturday. Karan excelled in the 10km team race, finishing first for his team, though they ultimately placed second overall due to late arrivals from other team members.
This marked Karan’s debut at the Namosi marathon, and he expressed his enthusiasm about participating alongside his coach, Isireli Naikelekelevesi. Despite not clinching first place, Karan relished the experience, appreciating the distinctive challenge presented by the mountainous terrain, even amidst rainy weather.
“This is my first Namosi marathon, and I competed in the 10km team race. It’s wonderful to see my coach, Isireli Kelekelevesi, participating as well,” Karan shared. “I finished first for my team, and while we ended up second overall, it was still a fantastic race.”
Karan reflected on the intense competition, acknowledging the difficulties posed by the hilly landscape but took pride in being the top runner for his team. He expressed gratitude to the Suva Marathon organizers and sponsors for their support, as well as thanks to his coach and family for their encouragement.
Taking time off from his regular training, Karan viewed the Namosi Challenge as a chance to test his skills and enjoy himself. He appreciated the event’s turnout and the opportunity to experience the breathtaking highland scenery while pushing his physical limits.
