Iliavi Masori’s participation in the Fiji men’s rugby sevens training squad for the second time has been a fulfilling achievement for him. Originating from the village of Toge in Ba, Masori is the younger brother of Jioji Nasove, a prominent winger for the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team and a silver medalist at the Paris Olympic Games.

Masori expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the support he has received from his family throughout his journey. He previously played for the Dominion Brothers Under-21 squad and earned a spot in the national training squad, although an injury led to a temporary setback. Now, with renewed determination, he is excited about the intensity of the training process, particularly the chance to train alongside his brother.

Despite facing challenges, including injuries, Masori remains dedicated to improving his skills. He noted the different coaching strategies from Ben Gollings and Osea Kolinisau, highlighting the latter’s focus on nutrition and holistic training practices. Masori is optimistic about the possibility of making his debut at the upcoming Dubai Sevens tournament, scheduled for November 30 to December 1. If given the opportunity, he intends to capitalize on it and work on his weaknesses.

Meanwhile, the Fiji men’s sevens team is focusing on overcoming a winless streak in the HSBC SVNS by aiming for victory at the Dubai 7s tournament. Veteran player Suliano Volivoli remarked on the challenges they have faced but reiterated the team’s perseverance and eagerness to secure a win. Kolinisau continues to emphasize the importance of mental and physical preparedness in their training regimen.

Volivoli mentioned that the squad has been training for three months and will utilize the Mataso tournament to gather valuable game time before heading to Dubai. The blend of new and experienced players within the team has fostered a strong camaraderie, supporting their quest for success in Dubai.

Overall, Masori’s journey and the team’s aspirations reflect a strong commitment to rugby and resilience in the face of adversity. With hard work and determination, the future looks promising for both Masori and the Fiji men’s sevens team as they aim for a triumphant return to the international stage.
