Iliavi Masori is experiencing a thrilling moment as he rejoins the Fiji men’s rugby sevens training squad for the second time. The young athlete, who hails from Toge in Ba and is the younger brother of rugby sevens winger and silver medallist Jioji Nasove, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity he has been given.

“I never dreamt that I’d be in the national sevens team and I’m thankful to my family for their massive support,” Masori shared. His journey included playing for the Dominion Brothers Under-21 squad before being selected and subsequently dropped from the national training squad due to injuries. Now back in training, he cherishes the experience and the chance to work alongside his brother, Nasova.

Masori’s determination remains unwavering, despite facing injuries. He has noted differences in coaching between Ben Gollings and Osea Kolinisau, particularly appreciating Kolinisau’s guidance on dietary discipline and training techniques.

Looking ahead, Masori is hopeful about making his debut at the upcoming Dubai Sevens tournament scheduled for November 30 to December 1. He acknowledged that if given the opportunity, he would embrace it fully, focusing on improving his game.

In a related story, the Fiji men’s sevens team is aiming to end their winless streak in the HSBC SVNS by clinching victory at the Dubai tournament. Veteran player Suliano Volivoli highlighted the team’s perseverance amidst challenges and emphasized the importance of mental and physical preparation as advised by coach Kolinisau.

Volivoli expressed optimism about the squad’s camaraderie, blending new and seasoned players. They have been training hard for three months, with one week left before departing for Dubai. To further sharpen their skills, the team will participate in the Mataso tournament, allowing players to gain valuable game time leading up to the event in Dubai.

This period of preparation and the support from teammates and family showcase the resilience and hopeful spirit of the Fiji rugby team as they strive for success on the international stage.
