Eight players from Fiji’s national men’s sevens extended squad have been chosen to participate in the Mike Friday Select Sevens team at the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament. Head coach Osea Kolinisau nominated these athletes, who include Viliame Naikausa, Rubeni Kabu, Suliano Volivoli, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Sakiusa Siqila, Rauto Vakadranu, and Alipate Biu.
This select team will also feature renowned players such as Jerry Tuwai, former Ireland captain Harry McNulty, Matai Leuta from the USA, and South African Rosko Specman. Tournament organizing committee chairman Jay Whyte expressed excitement about the inclusion of additional international players like Luke Treharne from Wales and Alexandre Odinga from France, emphasizing the event’s evolution into a world-class sporting occasion in Fiji.
The tournament is essential for the selected players as they vie for a spot in the men’s squad for the HSBC SVSN Perth Sevens tournament scheduled for January 24-26. The three-day Coral Coast 7s will take place at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka from January 16-18.
