Inspector Mavis Fatiaki is departing for Canberra, Australia today to continue the esteemed tradition of secondment duties with the Australian Federal Police as part of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) Programme.
IP Fatiaki, who graduated from the 2013 Cadet Program, earned her Master’s degree in International Policing with a focus on Public Security from the People’s Public Security University in Beijing, China. She has served as Station Officer at both Vunidawa and, more recently, Korovou Police Station.
Her selection came after a competitive process in which she faced numerous law enforcement officers from the region. The secondment is facilitated by the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding between the Australian Federal Police and the Fiji Police Force, allowing IP Fatiaki to join other young officers from Fiji in the PCLEC Delivery Capability Team (DCT). This team is dedicated to implementing Pacific-led capability development initiatives tailored for Pacific Police organizations.
Established in 2020, the DCT aims to coordinate initiatives that align with the strategic priorities outlined by the PICP, adhering to the core principles of PCLEC, which emphasize operations “By the Pacific, for the Pacific,” in line with the PICP’s values and mission.
Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew expressed that IP Fatiaki’s selection was expected, citing her accomplishments as a promising young leader, reflecting her skill set. He extended the organization’s best wishes for her six-month secondment, highlighting her role in upholding the Fiji Police’s proud tradition of supporting fellow law enforcement agencies in the Pacific.
