Inspector Mavis Fatiaki is departing today for Canberra, Australia, to carry on the esteemed tradition of secondment duties with the Australian Federal Police as part of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) Programme.
A graduate of the 2013 Cadet Program, IP Fatiaki studied at the People’s Public Security University in Beijing, China, earning a Master’s degree in International Policing with a focus on Public Security. She has previously served as Station Officer at Vunidawa and more recently at Korovou Police Station.
Her selection was the result of a competitive process where she faced candidates from various law enforcement agencies across the region. This secondment is facilitated by the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Australian Federal Police and the Fiji Police Force, allowing IP Fatiaki to join a team of young Fijian police officers involved in the PCLEC Delivery Capability Team (DCT). Their mission is to coordinate development initiatives tailored for Pacific Police organizations.
The DCT, established in 2020, is tasked with overseeing capability projects based on the strategic priorities defined by the PICP, adhering to the core principle of “By the Pacific, for the Pacific,” which is aligned with the values and mission of the PICP.
Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew expressed that IP Fatiaki’s selection was expected, citing her accomplishments as a rising leader and testament to her skills. He extended the organization’s best wishes for her six-month secondment, emphasizing that she is upholding the Fiji Police’s proud legacy of supporting fellow law enforcement entities in the Pacific.
