Angeline Rekha, a prominent defender for the national women’s football team of Fiji, has made a significant move by signing a professional contract with Western Springs in New Zealand. At just 20 years old, Rekha has made a name for herself as a fierce competitor on the field. Originally from Ba but currently representing Rewa, she is set to join her new team on February 1, 2025.
Known for her strong tackling, aerial skills, and leadership abilities, Rekha has gained recognition as one of Fiji’s top defenders. She is not new to New Zealand, having participated in trials with A-League club Wellington Phoenix in October 2023, which likely contributed to her successful contract signing.
In addition to Rekha’s achievements, two former teammates, Adi Litia Bakaniceva and Maria Veronica, have also secured professional contracts, joining the Papua New Guinea club Hekari United. This development highlights the growing opportunities for female athletes in the region, reflecting a positive trend in women’s football.
With such advancements, there is hope that more young athletes will be inspired to pursue professional careers in sports, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and talent. Rekha’s journey serves as an encouraging example for aspiring players in Fiji and beyond.
