Fiji’s Rising Drug Crisis: The Untold Impact on Communities

The Fiji Police Force is confronting a rising number of illegal drug possession cases, with marijuana being the most frequently seized substance. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Livai Driu, reported that many of the suspects arrested are in their 20s and 30s.

From the 18th to the present day, a total of eighteen incidents have been reported across all five divisions, including a significant operation at a farm where marijuana plants were uprooted. Besides marijuana, there have also been a few instances involving methamphetamine.

ACP Driu highlighted the increasing community involvement, noting a rise in requests for police-led awareness initiatives in partnership with various organizations. He emphasized the necessity of maintaining public trust, ensuring that police officers act with integrity and contribute effectively to the ongoing battle against drug-related issues.
