A rapidly rising star in Fiji’s entertainment scene is 24-year-old Drishant Pillay, a self-made Disc Jockey (DJ) who is making waves by skillfully blending musical genres to energize diverse audiences. Despite juggling a career as a professional IT Auditor specializing in information security, Drishant has already collaborated with internationally recognized artists and is committed to elevating his DJ career each time he performs.
Hailing from Ba, Drishant moved to Suva a few years ago in pursuit of educational and professional opportunities. The support of his parents, who encouraged his creativity and hard work, has been pivotal in his journey. “My passion for music and entertainment has shaped my journey, both professionally and personally,” he stated, reflecting on how his love for DJing took root during his high school years. Influenced by both local icons like DJ Bulletz and international stars such as DJ Snake, Drishant began exploring music production and the art of seamless transitions in DJing.
Drishant’s debut performance at Penang Sangam High School during a sports event marked the beginning of his successful journey. From those initial gigs, he gained confidence and momentum, performing at various events ranging from corporate functions to weddings. Financial constraints initially hindered his ability to acquire quality equipment, yet he demonstrated resilience, reinvesting earnings into building a professional DJ setup.
A significant turning point in his career came when he performed at the Fiji Showcase, captivating over 18,000 attendees and breaking stereotypes as an Indo-Fijian DJ. Collaborations, such as the “Runaway Bula Remix” with Justin Wellington, and performances at prominent events like the Conkarah concert also contributed to his growing acclaim.
Looking ahead, Drishant remains dedicated to advancing his career while continuing his IT profession. He aspires to expand his presence both locally and internationally and aims to merge his passion for music with an advancing career in Cybersecurity. His mission is to motivate upcoming talents in Fiji to pursue their dreams and overcome barriers, just as he has.
