Fiji’s Prime Minister Strengthens Ties with New Zealand on Fiji Day

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is currently on a two-day official visit to New Zealand, aiming to enhance relations and celebrate Fiji Day with the Fijian community in Aotearoa.

During his visit, Rabuka held discussions with Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, and Simon Watts, New Zealand’s Minister for Climate Change. He was joined by Dr. Lesi Korovavala, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and his wife, Sulueti Rabuka.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with his New Zealand counterpart, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, to talk about critical areas of cooperation, including regional security, economic partnerships, and climate change, as part of the Fiji-New Zealand Duavata Partnership.

In addition, Rabuka has been invited to lead the Fiji Day celebrations at Mangere Centre Park in Auckland. During his absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica will assume the role of Acting Prime Minister.

Following his visit to New Zealand, Rabuka plans to travel to Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) next Wednesday.
