Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Pacific leaders and police officers from the Micronesian region, particularly those from Kiribati, to take advantage of police recruitment training being offered in Fiji.

Speaking at the recent CHOGM 2024 Pacific Policing Event in Samoa, Mr. Rabuka stated that this opportunity is available not just to Kiribati, but to other small island nations interested in training in Fiji.

He mentioned, “I initially reached out to our Micronesian colleagues, especially Kiribati, to encourage their participation in the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), and we proposed sending training teams from the Fiji Police to assist them.”

Additionally, he noted that some island police forces have already been sending their recruits to train in Fiji.

“The offer remains open for Kiribati and any other islands willing to utilize the training opportunities available in Fiji,” he added.

Mr. Rabuka highlighted that Fiji’s security forces have undergone training with U.S. special forces and military services, which has facilitated sending recruits abroad for further training.

“A colleague of mine runs an institution there, allowing me to send our security personnel for training, and we plan to keep that opportunity available,” he explained.

He also mentioned that VIP security officers or police protection personnel interested in further training should have access to these institutions, which have generously provided support during critical times.

The Prime Minister will be in Noumea, New Caledonia, today, accompanied by three other Pacific leaders, as part of a mandate from the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum to visit the country that recently experienced civil unrest.
