The Fijian Parliament will hold a special session on October 31 to appoint the President of the country. The Business Committee of Parliament has confirmed that the session will take place at 11 a.m. It is anticipated that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will nominate the current President, Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere. Earlier this month, Parliament was expected to nominate and endorse a new President, but this did not occur. Prime Minister Rabuka stated that there were concerns regarding his nominee, which led to the withdrawal of that nomination. President Ratu Wiliame is currently in his first term, and under the 2013 Constitution, a President can serve for two terms, having first been appointed in 2021.
