Fiji’s President Makes Waves at UNGA: A Celebration of Diaspora Unity

Fiji’s President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is currently attending the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Prior to the session, he received a traditional welcome from the Fijian Diaspora residing in the city. In his speech, President Katonivere expressed his deep appreciation for the warm hospitality shown to the delegation by the Fijian community.

He acknowledged their consistent support for families back in Fiji and emphasized the significant impact of their financial contributions on the nation’s economic development.

The President also recognized Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Filipo Tarakinikini, for his effective leadership and efforts in promoting Fiji’s interests on the global stage.

He highlighted that the attendance of the diaspora at the welcoming event demonstrates the unity of Fijian families overseas, stating, “Despite being far from home, they continue to carry Fiji in their hearts, reinforcing the bond between overseas Fijians and their homeland.”

In attendance were Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Ratu Ilisoni Vudireketi.

President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s commitment to global cooperation, sustainable development, and the enhancement of peace, prosperity, and progress for all.
