Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Takes on the Toughest Challenge in Nauru

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a strong 10-member team to compete in the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, which will take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. Federation president Viliame Lagonilakeba confirmed the squad’s formation, which includes six athletes and four officials.

Lagonilakeba highlighted the challenges of competing in Nauru, noting that powerlifting is a significant part of their culture and has produced many world champions. This reputation makes Nauru one of the most formidable powerlifting nations globally. He expressed confidence in the athletes, stating they are well-prepared and eager to test their skills against top competitors in the region.

The athletes representing Fiji include: Vivaan Patel (Men’s sub-junior U83kg), Vinesh Chand (Men’s Open U74kg), Faga Varea (Men’s Open U93kg), Muzammil Ali (Men’s Open U120kg), and Kurt Wise (Men’s Open U120kg, captain). The team officials are Eric Jioje (Head coach, Non-travelling), Ryan Bale (Non-travelling), Salacieli Koroi (Assistant coach, Travelling), and Jessa May Banchod (Team manager/doctor, Travelling).
