Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Gears Up for Tough Oceania Championships!

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team for the upcoming Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships, set to take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This was confirmed by Federation president Viliame Lagonilakeba, who detailed that the squad comprises six athletes and four officials.

Lagonilakeba emphasized the challenge awaiting the team, noting that powerlifting is a significant part of Nauru’s culture, with many world champions hailing from the nation, cementing its reputation as a formidable force in the sport. He expressed confidence in the athletes, stating they are well-prepared and eager to compete against the region’s top talents.

The Fijian athletes include Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg category, Vinesh Chand competing in the Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in the Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali and Kurt Wise, who will both compete in the Men’s Open U120kg category, with Wise serving as the captain.

The officials supporting the team are Eric Jioje as head coach (non-travelling), Ryan Bale (non-travelling), Salacieli Koroi as assistant coach (travelling), and Jessa May Banchod as the team manager and doctor (travelling).
