Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Gears Up for Tough Oceania Championships

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team to compete in the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships, taking place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This information was shared by the Federation’s general president, Viliame Lagonilakeba.

The team comprises six athletes and four officials. Lagonilakeba acknowledged the challenges that await, noting that powerlifting is a significant part of Nauru’s culture, having produced numerous world champions, which establishes them as one of the strongest powerlifting nations globally.

He expressed confidence in the athletes, stating they are well-prepared and eager to showcase their strength and skills against top competitors from the region.

The athletes representing Fiji are:
– Vivaan Patel – Men’s sub-junior U83kg
– Vinesh Chand – Men’s Open U74kg
– Faga Varea – Men’s Open U93kg
– Muzammil Ali – Men’s Open U120kg
– Kurt Wise – Men’s Open U120kg (captain)

The officials on the team include:
– Eric Jioje – Head coach (non-traveling)
– Ryan Bale (non-traveling)
– Salacieli Koroi – Assistant coach (traveling)
– Jessa May Banchod – Team manager/doctor (traveling)
