Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Gears Up for Tough Oceania Championship Battle

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team for the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, set to take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This was confirmed by Federation general president Viliame Lagonilakeba.

The team comprises six athletes and four officials, with Lagonilakeba emphasizing that competing in Nauru will be a significant challenge. He noted that powerlifting is deeply woven into the culture of Nauru, which has produced many world champions, establishing its reputation as one of the toughest powerlifting nations globally.

Lagonilakeba expressed confidence in the athletes, stating they are well-prepared and eager to showcase their strength and skills against the top competitors in the region.

The Fiji squad features the following athletes: Vivaan Patel in the Men’s sub-junior U83kg category, Vinesh Chand in Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali and Kurt Wise in the Men’s Open U120kg category, with Wise also serving as captain.

The official team includes Eric Jioje as the head coach (non-travelling), Ryan Bale (non-travelling), Salacieli Koroi as the assistant coach (travelling), and Jessa May Banchod as the team manager and doctor (travelling).
