Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Gears Up for Tough Challenge in Nauru

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a robust 10-member team set to participate in the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, taking place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This was confirmed by Viliame Lagonilakeba, the Federation’s general president.

The squad is made up of six athletes and four officials. Lagonilakeba emphasized that competing in Nauru will be a significant challenge, noting that powerlifting is a deeply ingrained part of Nauru’s culture, with the country being home to many world champions, making it one of the toughest nations in the sport.

Despite the challenges, Lagonilakeba expressed confidence in the athletes, stating they are well-prepared and eager to test their strength and skills against the top competitors in the region.

The team comprises the following athletes: Vivaan Patel in Men’s sub-junior U83kg, Vinesh Chand in Men’s Open U74kg, Faga Varea in Men’s Open U93kg, Muzammil Ali in Men’s Open U120kg, and captain Kurt Wise in Men’s Open U120kg.

The officials include Eric Jioje as Head Coach (Non-travelling), Ryan Bale (Non-travelling), Salacieli Koroi as Assistant Coach (Travelling), and Jessa May Banchod as Team Manager/Doctor (Travelling).
