Fiji’s Powerlifting Team Gears Up for Oceania Showdown

The Fiji Powerlifting Federation has announced a strong 10-member team for the Oceania Regional Powerlifting Championships 2014, set to take place in Nauru from October 30 to November 2. This was confirmed by Federation general president Viliame Lagonilakeba.

The squad comprises six athletes and four officials. Lagonilakeba highlighted the challenge of competing in Nauru, a nation known for its deep-rooted powerlifting culture and history of producing world champions, making it one of the toughest countries in the sport.

He expressed that the athletes are confident and well-prepared for the competition and are eager to test their strength and skills against the top competitors in the region.

The Fiji athlete roster includes Vivaan Patel (Men’s sub-junior U83kg), Vinesh Chand (Men’s Open U74kg), Faga Varea (Men’s Open U93kg), Muzammil Ali (Men’s Open U120kg), and Kurt Wise (Men’s Open U120kg captain).

The officials include Eric Jioje as head coach (non-travelling), Ryan Bale (non-travelling), Salacieli Koroi as assistant coach (travelling), and Jessa May Banchod (team manager/doctor, travelling).
