Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially commissioned three significant projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, sustainability, and border security at Lautoka Port, under Fiji Ports Terminal Limited.
During the announcement, Rabuka stated that these initiatives are part of a broader government effort within the transformational strategic thrusts policy, designed to upgrade critical infrastructure and demonstrate the nation’s dedication to sustainable economic growth.
The projects include maintenance dredging over an area of 63,624 square meters, which will help maintain the port’s depth and navigability, essential for accommodating larger vessels.
Additionally, the initiatives feature the construction of a new container yard and a pilot boat project named “Louvaju,” which will bolster the port’s maritime control and border security, allowing for operations beyond port boundaries.
The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of these developments in aligning with Fiji’s overarching strategic vision, noting that it is vital for managing the traffic volume arriving from both the east and west, which will need to be distributed across the island territories.
