Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has inaugurated three significant projects for Fiji Ports Terminal Limited, aimed at improving operational efficiency, sustainability, and border security at Lautoka port.
During the announcement made yesterday, Rabuka emphasized that these initiatives are part of a broader government strategy under the transformational strategic thrusts policy, which seeks to bolster critical infrastructure and demonstrates the nation’s dedication to sustainable economic development.
The projects include maintenance dredging that covers an area of 63,624 square meters, essential for maintaining the port’s depth and navigability, allowing it to accommodate larger ships.
Additionally, the Prime Minister announced plans for the construction of a new container yard and a pilot boat project named “Louvaju.” This boat will enhance maritime control and border security, enabling operations beyond the port’s boundaries.
Rabuka underscored the significance of these projects within Fiji’s expansive strategic vision, noting that it is vital for the country to manage the increasing volume of maritime traffic arriving from both the east and west effectively.
