The Electoral Commission of Fiji (ECF) convened today in its quasi-judicial role to consider the appeal submitted by Opposition Member of Parliament Alvick Maharaj regarding the Registrar of Political Parties’ decision to deregister the Fiji First Party, a move that is set to take effect on July 1, 2024.

ECF Chair Barbara Malimali announced that the process has commenced and they anticipate releasing their decision once the proceedings are complete.

Malimali emphasized that, until the decision is reached, the Commission will refrain from making any comments on the matter.

“We trust that the people of Fiji will understand the necessity for discretion and will be patient,” she stated.
