Prasad emphasized that Fiji aims to avoid repeating the governance issues of the recent past. He remarked, “We have liberated Fiji from the constraints on media, suppression of free speech, and the rights of our workers.”

He acknowledged that this newfound freedom has led to vocal criticism of the coalition government, which he described as often malicious, defamatory, and at times quite amusing. However, he clarified that this does not imply that the government intends to restrict freedoms.
