Crime is evolving, and with criminals becoming increasingly sophisticated, a new police strategy is essential, according to Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua. This statement was made during his address to law enforcement officials at the Fiji Police Force’s 150th anniversary parade in Nasova.
Tikoduadua introduced the concept of the “Police Reset,” which he clarified is more than just a strategy; it represents a commitment to transform the operations of the Fiji Police Force in a world that is changing rapidly. He emphasized that crime is not static and is evolving more dramatically than ever, with challenges such as sophisticated cybercrime, organized crime, and the illicit drug trade presenting greater complexities than at any previous time in history.
To effectively address these challenges, the minister asserted that adaptation is crucial. He pointed out that the Police Reset aims to equip officers with the necessary skills, tools, and resources to confront modern threats. This initiative focuses on creating a more agile and responsive police force that is accountable to the public and closely connected to the communities it serves.
Tikoduadua stressed that the Reset is not about continuing previous practices but involves rethinking the approach to protection and service. He indicated that achieving this transformation will require investments in technology, equipment, and personnel.
Additionally, he highlighted the importance of training, professional development, and a renewed emphasis on integrity and service. A significant focus will also be placed on community policing, as the minister believes that true safety is fostered not only through law enforcement but also through building trust and cooperation with the public.
