The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) plans to announce the opening for the position of Commissioner of Police shortly. Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua, stated that the COC is actively progressing with the search for a new leader for the Fiji Police Force.

“The COC will soon advertise the position. We hope for a good number of applications so we can appoint a substantive commissioner quickly,” Mr. Tikoduadua expressed.

This vacancy was created after Sitiveni Qiliho, who was suspended on January 27, resigned this month while serving a two-year prison sentence. As a result, the COC is now moving forward in selecting a new commissioner. The role is currently being filled by Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew.

The COC functions as an advisory body to the President of Fiji, guiding the appointment of significant public positions, including that of the Commissioner of Police. The commission comprises six members, including the Prime Minister as chairperson, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Attorney-General. Additionally, two members are appointed by the Prime Minister, while one member is chosen by the Opposition Leader.
