“Fiji’s PM Unveils Ambitious ‘Oceans for Peace’ Initiative at UNGA”

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that his upcoming participation in the United Nations General Assembly will coincide with the adoption of his ‘Ocean for Peace’ policy, which he proposed at the recent 53rd Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting in Tonga.

During the launch of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, Rabuka mentioned that he plans to present the ‘Oceans for Peace’ policy at the UNGA, building on the discussions held in Tonga. He expects the framework to receive approval in Honiara, Solomon Islands, next year.

Additionally, Rabuka indicated that he has requested His Excellency the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, to represent him as the Leader of Government at the 79th United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York this week. The Prime Minister also noted that the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is collaborating with the Fiji Government to outline a plan for a united approach among Pacific nations, focusing on peace and security in the region.
