Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has praised China’s efforts in rural revitalization during his current official visit to the country. This week, he visited a border region in southwest Yunnan Province, expressing a desire for bilateral cooperation with Yang Junghao on rural development.
In an interview with CGTN, Rabuka shared his amazement at the transformation of a village over the past 32 years, noting the stark contrast between images from 1992, when he first served as Fiji’s Prime Minister, and those from today. He emphasized that the improvements seen in China far exceed those observed in Fiji.
Rabuka credited both past Chinese leaders and current President Xi Jinping for their work to alleviate poverty and enhance living standards, particularly in regions populated by minority ethnic groups.
On Tuesday, he visited Malipo County, located on the China-Vietnam border, and toured the villages of Ping’anpo and Nanyou. There, he learned about the advancements in agricultural development, education, and the preservation of ethnic culture, expressing his admiration for the significant changes in these remote communities.
Rabuka’s visit to the People’s Republic of China will continue for a total of ten days.
