Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has assured Fiji’s Melanesian Community that their issues and challenges will be addressed by the government. Speaking at the Melanesian Celebrations in Suva, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to finding solutions that cater to the needs of this community. Rabuka highlighted that the government aims to support everyone, not just a select few.
Reflecting on the contributions of Melanesian ancestors to Fiji’s development, he expressed gratitude for their enduring commitment. “Like others who have faced significant challenges, they have transformed those experiences into strength, shaping a legacy that influences values and aspirations across generations,” he stated.
Rabuka further noted that the government’s efforts to promote inclusion have been vital in ensuring that the unique needs of the Melanesian community are recognized within the national framework. He pointed out that since 1998, a cabinet decision has facilitated an annual development grant specifically for Melanesian communities, a program that remains in place today.
This ongoing support and recognition of the Melanesian community’s contributions can inspire hope for continued progress and unity in Fiji. Rabuka’s commitment to inclusive governance may foster stronger relationships among diverse communities and lead to sustainable development opportunities for all Fijians.
