Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that the immunity provisions outlined in the 2013 Constitution will not hinder the progress of the Fiji Truth and Reconciliation Commission (FTRC) consultation process. He emphasized the importance of truth and reconciliation in fostering unity within Fiji.
“This is something that the country must, and should do,” Mr. Rabuka remarked. He highlighted that the outcomes of the ongoing consultations will influence the direction of the FTRC.
Expressing appreciation for the public’s response to the initial consultations on the FTRC framework, he noted the participation of former politicians, community leaders, religious figures, NGO representatives, and private citizens, underscoring the necessity for open dialogue regarding the country’s political history.
“I thank everyone who made the effort to attend these public forums, and I have observed the honest and meaningful discussions that took place,” he said. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to Sashi Kiran and the assistant ministers for their contributions to this important initiative.
