Fiji’s Path to Healing: A Bold Call for Forgiveness and Unity

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka stated that the recent actions taken by the Mercy Commission, including the pardons granted to George Speight and Shane Stevens, followed proper procedures and were free from external involvement. He emphasized that these decisions are part of Fiji’s continuous efforts for reconciliation and healing, highlighting the need to reflect on the past as the nation strives for unity and progress.

Rabuka acknowledged the responsibility of those who have contributed to the nation’s instability for hindering major developmental advancements. He described the pardons as a blessing for those who have completed their prison sentences, allowing them to reintegrate into society and make positive contributions.

He called for the embrace of forgiveness, truth, and reconciliation as essential steps toward creating a stronger and more united Fiji. The Prime Minister is encouraging all Fijians to back the Coalition Government’s initiatives aimed at fostering truth and reconciliation, which are crucial for the country’s growth and prosperity.
