Fiji’s Path to Democracy: A New Era Begins

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, emphasized that the current Government has fulfilled its commitment to restore freedom to the people of Fiji by ending the oppressive rule of two individuals.

During the National Federation Party Annual Convention, Professor Prasad stated that the Government is working towards rebuilding a democratic and accountable leadership in Fiji. He highlighted that the party has kept its promises to eliminate fear and intimidation, as well as to engage in listening and consultation with the public.

He urged party members to support the ongoing efforts to enhance the nation and expressed confidence in their collective goal of improving Fiji.

“We are the oldest political party in Fiji, having endured both challenges and victories, while others, even those once deemed powerful, have disappeared,” he noted. “Our survival stems from our shared belief in key values. We are united by our love for Fiji and our desire to contribute positively to its future. Our principles revolve around unity and peace, and we strive to assist the most disadvantaged among us to improve their lives. For decades, we have aspired to this moment when we can govern with integrity and compassion, making Fiji stronger, better, and more resilient.”

Professor Prasad concluded by asserting their commitment to building a better Fiji, one that is more equal and just for all its citizens.
