Fiji has announced that Olympian swimmer David Young and taekwondo athlete Venice Traill will serve as flag bearers during the Closing Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Their selection reflects their significant achievements and commitment to their respective sports, positioning them as role models for future athletes in Fiji.

David Young, 20, is recognized for his remarkable sprint freestyle talents and has had a noteworthy Olympic journey. A standout moment for him was winning heat 5 of the Men’s 50m Freestyle, where he set a new national record with a time of 22.71 seconds. This accomplishment not only highlighted his speed and skill but also brought honor to Fiji, reinforcing his reputation as one of the country’s premier athletes.

Venice Traill is a pioneer in Fijian taekwondo. At 27, she has made considerable progress in a sport that traditionally has faced limited visibility in the Pacific region. Through her determination and effort, she achieved historic qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics, joining teammate Lolohea Navuga Naitasi.

The Closing Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will take place at 6 am tomorrow, and viewers can watch it live on Fiji One.
