Peter Wise, the former permanent secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, has been designated as Fiji’s new Ambassador to Japan, as confirmed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. He will succeed Filimone Waqabaca, who is anticipated to return to Fiji to lead the Fiji Development Bank.
Mr. Wise chose to resign from his position as permanent secretary on September 25, citing personal reasons. However, Prime Minister Rabuka later revealed that his office had received a sexual harassment allegation against Mr. Wise, which was forwarded to the Public Service Commission.
According to Mr. Rabuka, Mr. Wise was made aware of the allegation, which contributed to his decision to resign voluntarily. Mr. Wise had been serving as permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister since January 2023 and has held similar roles in previous governments.
