Fiji’s New Tourism Office: A Game Changer for Vanua Levu!

The NaVualiku initiative, known as the ‘Fiji Tourism Development Programme in Vanua Levu,’ officially opened its office in Savusavu Town last Saturday. Located at the JKS Building, the ceremony was officiated by Viliame Gavoka, the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, whose ministry oversees the program.

Minister Gavoka highlighted that the establishment of the office signifies more than just a physical space; it symbolizes a commitment to making a meaningful impact in the region by developing strategies, mobilizing resources, and promoting sustainable development. He emphasized that the goal is not only to attract more tourists to Vanua Levu but also to enhance the quality of life for local residents.

“The office will play a crucial role in ensuring that the benefits of the NaVualiku program reach every community on the island,” he stated.

In a related development, World Bank Group country manager for Fiji, Stefano Mocci, announced that the project is backed by a US$200 million financing package from the World Bank. This funding will support a multi-phase approach over the coming decade.

Mocci stated that the World Bank, along with key partners, is dedicated to aiding the Government of Fiji in transforming Vanua Levu into a flourishing tourism destination that generates jobs, especially for women and youth, attracts investments, and stimulates economic growth, ultimately enhancing the living standards of the people in the region.

He also noted the importance of the new office in fostering coordination, collaboration, and partnerships as they work towards achieving tangible results and supporting Fiji’s ‘Look North’ policy aimed at boosting the tourism sector in Vanua Levu.
