The Ministry of Education has announced the reinstatement of interviews for Year 13 students who wish to pursue careers in teaching. This initiative is a collaborative effort with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS).
The aim is to improve the quality of teacher recruitment and training across Fiji. Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro highlighted the necessity of a thorough selection process to attract candidates who are not only qualified but also enthusiastic about the teaching profession.
This initiative is part of the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which seeks to strengthen relationships between various stakeholders and the Ministry of Education. The declaration’s goal is to ensure that graduates possess the appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to thrive in classrooms throughout the country.
Eligible students can apply for scholarships through the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) and the Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme, which support various Bachelor of Education programs and specialized fields, including Early Childhood Education, Counseling, and Industrial Arts.
The deadline for submitting online applications to TSLS is set for January 31, 2025. Successful applicants will be informed about their interview dates and locations via email and phone.
This renewed focus on interviewing candidates signifies a commitment to enhancing the educational landscape in Fiji, ensuring that future educators are well-equipped to inspire and educate the next generation.
Overall, this initiative is a positive step towards strengthening the teaching profession in Fiji, highlighting the importance of recruiting not just qualified but also passionate educators.
