The Coalition Government is preparing to announce its new National Development Plan, which aims to offer fresh hope and guidance for development in Fiji. This was emphasized by Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, the Minister for Health and Medical Services, during his address at the Fiji Medical Association Annual Scientific Conference in Nadi yesterday.
Dr. Lalabalavu expressed eagerness for the Ministry to align its strategies with the new National Development Plan, focusing on building a resilient health system that leverages innovation and technology to provide high-quality, evidence-based healthcare. He highlighted the goal of contributing to a healthier population in Fiji.
Additionally, he mentioned the Cabinet’s approval of the National HIV Surge Strategy, which Dr. Lalabalavu indicated will be officially launched soon. He urged the association’s cooperation and support in implementing this strategy, which relies on collaborative efforts from multiple stakeholders to curb the spread of HIV in communities.
Dr. Lalabalavu acknowledged the significant challenges faced by the health sector, particularly in public health, over the past few years, citing issues related to infrastructure, human resources, quality of health services, and health financing. He noted that since the Coalition Government took office approximately a year and a half ago, it has clearly prioritized policies aimed at tackling these challenges through collaboration, innovation, and decisive actions to improve healthcare in Fiji.
