Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, announced that the National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029 aims to provide economic growth and prosperity for both current and future generations. During its launch in Suva, Kamikamica emphasized that the plan is designed to benefit all citizens, regardless of their backgrounds, encouraging participation in the nation’s progress.
Kamikamica described the plan as pivotal for realizing Fiji’s national aspirations, encapsulated in the vision of “Empowering the People of Fiji through Unity.” He stressed the importance of fostering a sense of shared purpose, ensuring every citizen can contribute to the nation’s development.
The NDP is structured around three fundamental pillars:
1. Economic Resilience, which focuses on diversifying the economy through innovation, research, and technology to withstand future economic challenges.
2. People Empowerment, aimed at addressing development gaps to guarantee access to essential services and promote active engagement in nation-building.
3. Good Governance, which seeks to enhance accountability, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law, safeguarding democracy.
Kamikamica highlighted that the NDP is aligned with international commitments, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and regional strategies, affirming Fiji’s role as a leader in the Pacific for commerce and trade. He concluded by stating that while the National Development Plan will serve as a roadmap for Fiji’s development, its success relies on the involvement of all Fijians.
