Fiji’s New High Commissioner: A Diplomatic Journey Begins

Fiji’s President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, recently presided over the commissioning of Jackson Bernard Nato Evans as the country’s High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea at the State House.

In his address, President Katonivere extended his congratulations to High Commissioner Evans, expressing hopes for his success in this important diplomatic role.

Evans, who boasts a remarkable military career spanning over 35 years, is well-equipped for his new position. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), having been reappointed in 2011. His experience also includes a significant deployment as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment in Iraq back in May 2007.

His esteemed career features roles such as the Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at RFMF Headquarters and a promotion to Colonel in 2008. Additionally, his accolades include the MFO Peacekeeping Medal awarded for his military service in Egypt and the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership, which he earned on two occasions in late 1999 and early 2000.

The commissioning ceremony was marked by the presence of key figures, including the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Lesikimacuata Korovavala, as well as Evans’ close family.

This appointment not only signifies a new chapter for Evans but also represents Fiji’s continued investment in strengthening diplomatic relations with neighboring nations. It is a hopeful indication of Fiji’s commitment to global peace and cooperation.
